Finding Our Way Back Home to God

God’s word is his logos. He speaks to us through the patterns and cycles of his creation and through the metaphysical language of math and geometry, letters and symbols. The world which he created when he spoke the words that brought all to life (whether that be the Hindu Aum, the Druid Awen, the Egyptian cry of the Benu bird or the Biblical “And God Said Let There Be Light”) all signify the initial sound which began everything here in the material world. Before light came sound.

“A single sharp cry sounded, and endless time began. The Benu Bird flew away, but a faint light remained.”

According to the Native American Abenaki mythology, the Creator (Gici Niwaskw) desired to form the world. Before he began, there was no sound or color in the universe. He called forth the land, clouds, and living creatures into existence. He then fell asleep and dreamed the world into reality.

Why does understanding God’s language matter? Because it leads to truth. There is only one truth and it is that which corresponds to the laws of nature. These are universal axiomatic truths (such as the turning of the seasons, and 1+2=3) which cannot be disputed. The significance of these truths in our lives have been given to us in mythologies and holy scriptures throughout time and across the world.

“A myth is something that has never happened, but is happening all the time.” ~ Joseph Campbell

So when we can understand the inner occulted esoteric meaning, we come to the heart and the essence of the story. We begin to see that cultures throughout time and across the world have been sharing the same truth within their mythologies because they found it through nature and direct revelations from God.

When we can look into the world and see what has been revealed in our holy scriptures in every moment of our day and see it revolving around our sky each and every night, we can know we are understanding correctly. When we can read the mythologies of other cultures throughout time and see the esoteric meanings which are all pointing to the same truth, we can begin to connect the dots which will lead to our own transformation, just as that of Saul of Tarsus in the Bible story.

Sometimes religious institutions or spiritual groups warp and twist (or forget) the inner meaning of these stories and become confused in their teachings. They may only see the exoteric, or surface meaning and take it literally, perhaps thinking a man actually really spent three days in the belly of a whale and many such other absurdities. But in all mythology, the meaning is occulted, yet that does not make it any less true or powerful.. In fact, it is the opposite.

Only those who are truly seeking will find the actual transformative real meaning woven into the myths. Those who do not find it, are not ready. And this knowledge in the hands of those who are not ready can be dangerous and used for evil. Some have not even reached the point of being able to see the inherent order of creation and the divinity behind it.

But for those who have pure intentions, these concepts are simple enough for children to understand. And that is why we as adults also need to become like children seeing the world with wonder, and letting go of all our past programming.

I have been through all these stages in my own life. For a long time I stopped believing in the divine altogether. But then I spent years searching, seeking, meditating and praying, asking that whatever I should know be revealed to me. It required my doing the work of researching for myself and learning the wisdom passed down to us from ancient times, and from sources often ridiculed, feared and rejected by the majority of society. It required me to be completely honest with myself about what I actually knew without a shadow of a doubt and where I was seeking outside of myself for the answers. (This isn’t to say that we can’t have teachers, but ultimately we must be able to use our own discernment.)

Until we can know what is true and what is not true, this world age we are living in will continue to be lost.  When “your” truth aligns with nature and God’s logos then you can know without doubt that you have found the truth and the way. That is why God gave these things to us… as a constant reminder and a light beckoning us home. Ultimately it is all there to help us to remember who we are and why we are here, giving us the purpose we are all seeking in life.

My intention is to continue being a guide for both young and old as best I can. This timeless wisdom helps us to understand all aspects of our lives, bringing us back into harmony with nature and our own wellbeing which I am so passionate about. I am honored to walk this path with anyone who is ready.

With all the love,

Jean

Jean Cavanaugh is the founder and steward of Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, established in 2019 as a living, learning community devoted to reconnecting people with the wisdom of nature, the sacred order of creation, and the presence of Christ within all life. Her work brings together spiritual formation, ecological stewardship, ancestral wisdom, and hands-on community practice.

Through years of practical work on the land, study of the Mysteries, and the healing of her own severe health challenges through natural methods, Jean has come to recognize God’s hand at work throughout creation. Her teachings, rooted in the Mystery School tradition and Christian gnosis, explore how the patterns of heaven, earth, and the human body reveal the way back to divine presence, peace, and inner strength.

Jean leads with honesty, integrity, and a deeply welcoming spirit, inviting others to let go of inherited assumptions and rediscover truth through lived experience and embodied understanding. She works with all ages—from preschoolers to elders—offering programs and celebrations that emphasize direct engagement with nature, music, story, homesteading skills, and in-person community.

She and her family live at the 21-acre Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, where daily life reflects a commitment to simplicity, beauty, and harmony with the land. The sanctuary includes gardens, woodland trails, a seasonal creek, gathering circles, and spaces designed to nourish both people and wildlife. Jean is especially passionate about creating environments that are grounding, beautiful, and spiritually restorative.

Through her writing and teaching, Jean encourages others to know themselves, know creation, and recognize Christ as the living truth present within and around us—always inviting a return to love, beauty, and the sacred order of life.
