Making Nest Boxes for Kestrels and Screech Owls
This past Saturday, Dan, Caitlin, and Brennah had a fun time working on making nest boxes for kestrels and screech owls. We’ve seen these raptors around occasionally and would like to make a place for them to raise their young each year. Not only are they lovely birds in their own right, we’re hoping they’ll help keep the farm rodent population under control.
We have regular work days every Thursday and Saturday (however we haven’t had much interest in the Saturday time slot so far). Building projects are more likely to be on Saturdays, because that’s the type of thing that is in Dan’s wheelhouse, and he is available at that time.
In any case, we so appreciate all of you in the Crossing Hedgerows community who contribute in so many ways, whether coming out to work days or participating in some other fashion. Whether big or small, it all adds up and is greatly appreciated!

She works with all ages—from preschoolers to elders—offering programs and celebrations that emphasize direct engagement with nature, music, story, homesteading skills, and in-person community.
She and her family live at the 21-acre Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, where daily life reflects a commitment to simplicity, beauty, and harmony with the land. The sanctuary includes gardens, woodland trails, a seasonal creek, gathering circles, and spaces designed to nourish both people and wildlife. Jean is especially passionate about creating environments that are grounding, beautiful, and spiritually restorative.
Through her writing and teaching, Jean encourages others to know themselves, know creation, and recognize Christ as the living truth present within and around us—always inviting a return to love, beauty, and the sacred order of life.
