Finding Balance
Going into the darker time of year is difficult for many of us. Our energy wanes with the sun.
The cycles of the year and the seasons are really also our own cycles in so many ways. It seems a bit trite on the surface, but the more l delve into the layers of it, the more I find there is to discover. From the fullness of a breath taken, to the emptiness of a breath released, from the busyness of a day, to the slumber of a night, from the hustle and bustle, brightness and heat of summertime, to the slower gray and chilly days of winter, and from world ages of renaissance and flourishing, to times of confusion and lack, each of these signifies our connection to time.
Within this material existence we are bound to time. And what we are seeking is balance. Within the cycles of nature, of the heavens, and of ourselves we see that one state of being always turns into another. There is always the promise that the light will return. But in the meantime, how do we find peace in the darkness? How do we unite these opposites that are always pulling us one way or the other?

The Fire Circle at Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary
Lately I’ve been thinking about what I want to let go of and simplify, as well as what keeps me going and motivates me. Prayer, meditation, and seeking to observe my own psychological and behavioural patterns has helped me to clarify where I can continue to make changes and trust in divine timing.
We are each so different, born into different energies, yet we are meant to bring orderliness to our lives. Nature shows us this orderliness within the constancy of the patterns of the above and the below. The sunrise at Newgrange and many ancient sites at solstices have not changed their positions in thousands of years, not even by an inch. It is comforting to know that all this has been put here to help us find our way to that place of peace and balance. This orderliness could not have happened by mere chance and randomness. A rainbow will always have seven colors, and they will always be the same colors, and in the same order. God speaks to us through nature, through symbols and the metaphysical such as numbers and language, and through our own bodies. What are the messages you are receiving right now? Are you paying attention?
The other day I felt drawn to putting a rhythm of this sort to my days, such as…
Monday – Baking
Tuesday – Visit the Library
Wednesday – Create Something
Thursday – Journaling or Writing
Friday – Nature Walk
What calls to you in this kind of way? And what would you need to let go of for it to happen?
At our ceremony on Saturday, we will be offering to the fire something we are ready to part with. We would love for you to join us if you are able, but if not, perhaps you might like to do this on your own. Simply write on a piece of paper whatever you would like to shed from yourself or your life and burn it in a fire. And then it would be good if you also speak it out loud three times over.
With all my very best to you and yours,
Jean

She and her family live at the 21-acre Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, where daily life reflects a commitment to simplicity, beauty, and harmony with the land. The sanctuary includes gardens, woodland trails, a seasonal creek, gathering circles, and spaces designed to nourish both people and wildlife. Jean is especially passionate about creating environments that are grounding, beautiful, and spiritually restorative.
Through her writing and teaching, Jean encourages others to know themselves, know creation, and recognize Christ as the living truth present within and around us—always inviting a return to love, beauty, and the sacred order of life.
