Happy Imbolc and Candlemas!

Imbolc falls on February 2nd this year. It's the cross quarter between the winter solstice and spring equinox - the halfway point between them. The light is growing and this is when I actually always begin to notice the days becoming slightly longer. So it makes sense to celebrate with candles as the tiny light from Christmas grows stronger and we nurture this light within ourselves as well. Decorating the NE stone of the circle is ...

Sun over Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary - Jan. 29th, 2025   Saturday, February 8th at 2pm As we carry forward from Alban Arthan our tiny flames, may we celebrate together the strengthening light at Imbolc. Whether or not you attend the ceremony, I encourage you to pay attention to the intensifying sun and take heart. Watch as many sunrises and sunsets as you can manage. Notice the quality of the sun. And don't be afraid to ...

The Wheel of the Year Celebrations

By |2026-03-18T19:57:19-04:00January 31st, 2026|Events & Celebrations|

Today was supposed to be our belated Imbolc celebration, but I ended up canceling it due to the once again difficult traveling conditions. So I hope this post will help make up for it a little bit. In the video above, you can follow the kitty and bunny tracks with me out to the Stone Circle. I added some rocks yesterday to finish creating the eight fold wheel of the year around the central stone. So you ...

Candlemas   Brighid’s bright blessings were upon us yesterday during our celebration of Imbolc. The heartfelt participation by all who were present, made it a beautiful and memorable experience.     As I have been taking a class on Song in Ritual from Danica Boyce, I look forward to continuing to add more singing to our rituals. Danica talks about how in the past, everyone sang all the time. Poetry would not have been spoken, ...

Winter is Here and Imbolc is Near

By |2026-03-18T19:27:58-04:00January 31st, 2026|Musings|

These are some pictures taken early this morning just as the sun was coming up. It seems like winter is finally beginning to arrive at Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary and Farm. Yet we only have three weeks left until Imbolc which marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. But for now, the Cailleach is bringing her wisdom and beauty to the land and we stand in awe of her presence.       ...

Going Slowly

We had a great turnout for our Imbolc gathering yesterday! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy this informal time around the fire. It was a wonderful way to begin easing back into some events after my difficulties with my foot, and after many of our members coming down with illness over the winter. It was lovely to introduce some new folks to those who have been around for awhile, and to have all the ...

Just a reminder that our Imbolc gathering will be this Sunday at 2:00. It will not be a ritual this time, but an opportunity to appreciate the season together. We will have a bonfire, hot coco, some mead, and perhaps cookies or similar fare. We also invite you to walk the trails and enjoy the land at your own leisure, with the fire awaiting to warm you upon your return. ...And I wanted to share with you ...

Season of Imbolc

By |2026-04-01T02:03:24-04:00February 24th, 2021|Birds, Musings|

Last week this bird's nest was full of snow. This week the snow is melting fast. And a couple of days ago when I stepped out onto the back patio, I saw the biggest fattest robin I have ever seen. Imbolc gives us the promise of springtime as the light continues to grow.   bird's nest with a large mound of snow in it - photo by Brennah Cavanaugh   Blessings from the Sanctuary, Jean Phot
