Great News! Site Preparations are Resuming!
I am delighted to share with you that we (the Cavanaughs) have signed on a new contractor to resume the work needed for digging the pond and the water management of our land. This is a crucial main element in our design for creating an abundant life-sustaining ecosystem. This plan allows us to manage the flooding in such a way as to to keep the water on site to use more effectively, while also giving us some dry spaces for our other needed infrastructure. It is key to going forward with the vision and mission set forth for Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary.

The contractor that we have chosen is Todd’s Services, a licensed company that has been in business for many years and which has specialists knowledgeable about working in wetland sensitive areas. https://www.toddsservices.com/wetland-restoration
Part of the pre-bid process involved Todd’s checking with EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) to confirm they would grant us a permit. This is something which our previous contractor told us he was doing, but which turned out not to be true (among many many other issues). Todd’s Services gave us confirmation that EGLE would approve the permits before we even signed the contract.
So the first stage of the process which is about to happen will be to obtain all permits necessary and dig a couple of bore holes to confirm that the pond will hold water as they resume the excavation. They have already sent out a hydrologist who is familiar with our area to confirm that it is not likely to be a problem. If all goes well with this stage, we will then go on to stage two, which will be scheduled for this coming spring. That will include excavating the pond and grading the rest of the property to our specifications, including replacing the topsoil that was already taken off and mounded up in various places.
Thank you again for all your support. It means the world to us as we take this next giant step!
