As you walk the wildflower lined path back towards the towering tree line where the forest begins, you will come to a creek that runs through the sanctuary all the way to Lake Erie. And the only way into the woods is across the creek. At the moment, the creek bed is dry, so we decided it would be a good opportunity to get together this past weekend and build a bridge. Using only materials from onsite (logs from the woods and salvaged cedar from an old pool deck), we created a wonderfully rustic bridge leading into our enchanted forest. Most times of year, there is plenty of water flowing through the creek, and even significant flooding in the spring, so we were delighted to accomplish this task! After finishing the project, we had our usual dinner together and a board meeting in the fire circle. At the end of the day, it was agreed by all, that building a bridge was the perfect first group project to symbolize our dreams for the sanctuary.
