Sunrise – July 1st, 2023: A distinctive purple glow over the stone circle

As we head into July, I want to thank you all for your continued support of Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary. Though we haven’t been having as many events this year, the land continues to heal and is teaming with ever more life. Sometimes the bird song is almost deafening around here, and the varieties of insects, and animals passing through are too many to list. Yet they don’t create any problems to our plantings for the most part, as our ecosystem has come into such amazing balance over the years.

Staying away from a warfare mindset in our relationship with the land has created this luscious and abundant habitat. To understand how this works, I really encourage you all to look into the permaculture design system, not only for working on the land, but as a guide to lifestyle in general.

There is an ever greater push in modern times to see the world in a mechanical, transhumanist way, in which everything and everyone can be controlled through technology and we are all separate entities which can be forced into conformity. Whether it be how we relate to our own bodies, or the outer world, the problems we face are all a reflection of this internalization that does not recognize our interbeingness, our biological natures, and the essential ability of all biological systems to be able to heal themselves.

One of our perennial herb plantings, marsh mallow, a demulcent medicinal which helps with illnesses in which there is too much dryness in a person’s constitution. So for example, it could be very helpful for someone who needs to moisten up their lungs.

As I have been taking some time off this year to heal, I have been using these principles with results which seem almost miraculous. Autoimmune disease along with bone and cartilage degeneration, which I was told there could be no cure, ongoing migraines, depression and anxiety, difficulty sleeping, were all some of the issues I was experiencing. These are now either completely resolved, or largely healed in only the span of a few months.

I am hoping in the near future to lead a regular meet-up in which we explore some of these topics and lifestyle changes together.

So do not despair my friends. Healing is possible when we become aligned with our own life force, and that which is connected with all others.

Blessed Be,

Jean

Jean Cavanaugh is the founder and steward of Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, established in 2019 as a living, learning community devoted to reconnecting people with the wisdom of nature, the sacred order of creation, and the presence of Christ within all life. Her work brings together spiritual formation, ecological stewardship, ancestral wisdom, and hands-on community practice.

Through years of practical work on the land, study of the Mysteries, and the healing of her own severe health challenges through natural methods, Jean has come to recognize God’s hand at work throughout creation. Her teachings, rooted in the Mystery School tradition and Christian gnosis, explore how the patterns of heaven, earth, and the human body reveal the way back to divine presence, peace, and inner strength.

Jean leads with honesty, integrity, and a deeply welcoming spirit, inviting others to let go of inherited assumptions and rediscover truth through lived experience and embodied understanding. She works with all ages—from preschoolers to elders—offering programs and celebrations that emphasize direct engagement with nature, music, story, homesteading skills, and in-person community.

She and her family live at the 21-acre Crossing Hedgerows Sanctuary, where daily life reflects a commitment to simplicity, beauty, and harmony with the land. The sanctuary includes gardens, woodland trails, a seasonal creek, gathering circles, and spaces designed to nourish both people and wildlife. Jean is especially passionate about creating environments that are grounding, beautiful, and spiritually restorative.

Through her writing and teaching, Jean encourages others to know themselves, know creation, and recognize Christ as the living truth present within and around us—always inviting a return to love, beauty, and the sacred order of life.
